Mother's Day Breakfast
Mothers are a very special part of our lives and play a huge role in the life of our school. On May 10 we took the opportunity to celebrate with our mums and other special women in our lives at our annual Mother's Day breakfast. This event is run by our tireless Parents Association and it was great to see our school dads and special people all working hard to help create wonderful memories for the students and their mothers.
KidsView - Bahay Tuluyan Philippines
Understanding social justice goes hand in hand with understanding the inequity around our world when it comes to basic human resources. Regardless of race, gender, age, disabilities, location or religion all people should have equal access to our basic needs of water, medical health, location, housing and nutritious food. Our students were privileged to be part of workshops, games and talks by Catherine, Carlo and Jayson who live in the Philippines. They shared stories to help the students understand the challenges that many face back home. Misconceptions were found amongst many if not all students with regards to what they thought being 'rich' was and evidence was shared to help further their understanding. Many students did not realise that they were in the top 25% of what it means to be rich in our world. If you have a roof over your head, access to clean water and nutritious food then this is what is considered to be 'rich'. Many students were astounded with the fact that only a few children had medical help and education because of their status in the Philippines. We are so very grateful for the knowledge shared and for the resources used in the workshops to help our students grow in understanding.
b Kinder Day
This year the students at St John’s have participated in b kinder Day. We have written cards of kindness for some special people in our lives (through the purchase of these cards we donated to the b kinder foundation), some students are even creating stories with a kindness message that will be shared on the b kinder YouTube page. We have all been learning that our actions matter and that we each have the power to make a difference through kindness.
Please see the video below for some extra information about b kinder Day.
