School Wide Positive Behaviour Support
St John's Positive Behaviour for Learning
What is Positive Behaviour for Learning?
It is a clear set of expectation for all students regarding their behaviour. It's how St John's teaches specific behaviours, expectations and consequences to all students. It is a proactive approach to managing student behaviour as the focus is on achieving and maintaining positive behaviours, interactions and relationships. The key elements are:
- RESPECT
- RESPONSIBILITY
- SAFETY
How does it work?
St John's creates predictable environments that are effective for achieving social and academic goals.
The key to successful behaviour management is prevention.
Students are taught the expected behaviours, through modelling and role play.
A consistent set teacher expectations are applied and positive behaviour is rewarded.
PBL is used across the world is very successful here at St John's.
Our students know and understand how to be Safe, Respectful and Responsible for their own actions.
Expected behaviour at St John's
Our core expectations at St John's are: Respect Self, Respect Others and Respect Property - our 3 R's. To build positive relationships with others, we first must respect ourselves. When we respect others, we can have successful and positive social interactions. By respecting our own, and shared property and the environment, we ensure we have a safe school and a sustainable future.
Parent involvement
Parents are integral to the successful implementation of school wide positive behaviour. At home, parents can use the same rules and expectations as the school as it results in a common language and unified approach. Parents can discuss these expectations at home with their children which assists in creating a consistent and predictable environment.
