Social & Emotional Learning
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

SEL is explicitly planned for at St John's as part of our weekly curriculum to provide all students with effective classroom instruction, engagement in positive activities in and out of the classroom, community awareness and involvement, to develop the social and emotional skills that are critical to being a good student, citizen, and worker.
Our SEL Curriculum is based on the understanding that the best learning emerges in the context of supportive relationships that make learning challenging, engaging, and meaningful.
We also provide opportunities for smaller focus group SEL activities and workshops as needed for students throughout their life at St John's. We also engage community and external groups to further develop students social and emotional learning when the school and families feel this is valuable.
