Life Education Incursion 2025
St John's was very excited to welcome Harold and the Life Education Team to our school recently. In May we had a great time learning about our bodies, friendships, and being safe online. Every year group had the opportunity to participate over two days learning about issues and topics ranging from healthy eating and personal hygiene, to online safety and security.
Our Preps took part in the 'My Body' program. They joined Harold the Giraffe to to learn about hygiene, healthy foods, the benefits of getting the right amount of physical activity and sleep… plus ways to keep safe at home, at school and in the community. They had an amazing time!
Grades 1 and 2 engaged with Harold's Online World. Students investigated the use of digital technology and the importance of being safe and respectful online, including identifying a range of safe and unsafe situations online and trusted adults who can help, and managing emotions in a range of online situations.
Grades 3 and 4 joined Boots and Red to learn about Friends and Feelings. Presented in engaging comic book-style videos, this module focuses on being a good friend. Boots and Red have been friends forever but a conflict between them unfolds. The concepts of; asking consent, having tricky conversations with friends, and feelings associated with big changes are also explored. Students help Boots and Red resolve their misunderstanding.
Finally, grades 5 and 6 continued their learning on being Cyberwise. They looked at recognising the body cues that warn us about unsafe or potentially predatory behaviours and learning how to react to risks and report problems online. They also learned about the importance of online privacy and respectful relationships.
