100 Days of Prep
Our Foundation students always love to celebrate their 100th day of school! To mark this special milestone, the children come dressed as 100-year-olds, complete with walking sticks, glasses and plenty of grey hair.
In the lead-up to the big day, we prepare by writing about what we would like 100 of and why. Answers are always heart-warming (and a little ambitious!) a few children said they’d like 100 puppies and would walk them every day! We also create 100-day self-portraits of what we might look like if we were 100 years old, focus our handwriting activities around the number 100 and use 100 Counting charts to help them visually understand the number.
Students bring in a collection of 100 small items — pasta pieces, buttons, pom poms, paperclips, beads — to use in a fun mathematics activity. We practise counting our items using the 100 charts, strengthening our number sense while having plenty of laughs. It is always a joyful celebration of learning, growth and the amazing achievements of our first 100 days together.
We can't wait to celebrate again this year.
