Grade 5/6 Annual Aspendale Beach Excursion – Water Safety Training
On Tuesday 14th October, our Grade 5/6 students took part in our annual Water Safety Training Day at Aspendale Beach with the Victorian Surf Lifesaving Association.
It was a chilly and windy start, but as the sun came out, the day turned into the perfect opportunity to learn important beach and water safety skills. Students discovered how to stay safe if they ever found themselves adrift in the water, such as after a capsized boat, and explored creative ways to stay afloat using everyday items like a football or even an esky!
Throughout the day, students learned how to enter the water safely, practiced body boarding, and gained valuable knowledge about UV safety, weather conditions, and emergency response — including who to call and what information to give when seeking help.
The day ended with some fun on the sand, as students played football and took part in a sandcastle building competition. It was a memorable day filled with learning, teamwork, and plenty of smiles.
